Dailies and Monthlies:
Guild Wars 2 has what's called a Daily. Each day there are different objectives for you to complete, and if 5 of them are completed you earn a Daily reward.
Clicking the sword-on-a-shield icon at the top of the screen you can open up your hero panel. The very bottom item in the list on the left is the achievements tab. The first thing in the achievements tab is the Daily.
There are two types of Dailies: the PvE Daily and the sPvP Daily.
PvE Dailies consist of doing 5 things out of a list of 9 things in PvE. Completing 5 of the things on the list gives you a chest with a Jug of Liquid Karma, a Laurel, a Mystic Coin, 30% experience toward the next level, some level dependent money, and some achievement points.
sPvP Dailies are similar to PvE Dailies except they only give the Laurel and some PvP items.
The Laurel can only be acquired once a day. If you get a Laurel from your PvE Daily you will not get one from your sPvP Daily, and vice versa.
Monthlies are similar to Dailies but require a lot more effort to complete. Completing a Monthly rewards a chest with 10 Laurels, 10 Jugs of Liquid Karma, 20 Mystic Coins, and 50 silver.
What to do with Jugs of Liquid Karma:
Don't drink those jugs! Not just yet anyway. Save them in your bank. When you get 100 or so, or when you're ready to spend your karma, you'll want to use some boosters. You'll want a karma booster, a karma banner, a guild karma boost, and ice cream (karma boosting food.) Normally a Jug of Liquid Karma nets 4,500 karma. With all 4 of those boosts applied it will net 7,800 karma!
In addition to the jugs, save the Drops of Liquid Karma and any other consumable karma giving items. By the time you're ready to use them you'll have enough variety for a full-on karma party!
Other Sources of Karma:
Other sources of Karma include doing events, hearts, dungeons, playing World vs World (zerg train for the events,) unique karma granting reward items, and occasional world events such as the Living Story which rewards karma for turning in objects found out in the world.
For information on what to do with karma once you've earned it please refer to the article on gearing a level 80 character.
What to do with Laurels:
Save those Laurels! You will want them when you hit level 80. They are hard earned, it takes a long time and dedication to the game to acquire large amounts of them. An ascended piece of jewelry costs 30 Laurels and and infusion for it costs an additional 10. That's 40 Laurels for one ascended piece, and you will want multiple pieces.
What to do with Mystic Coins:
Deposit them in the bank. This is the only thing you should be depositing in the bank with any regularity. If you ever decide to go for a legendary weapon you will need around 231 of them. They are also a requirement in the crafting of some other high level weapons.
You could also sell these if you have no plans to ever craft a legendary weapon. They go for around 5 silver each so you won't get rich on them but they will add up over time. If you ever change your mind about crafting a legendary weapon you can always buy the coins on the Trading Post.
